It’s a continuing struggle to pack light everywhere you go, especially when travelling. An overnight stay can sometimes look like you are travelling for a week. You bring every possible item you think of, then you will be amazed on how many things have you brought for that travel. Now, how you “PACK LIGHT” the answer do is very simple. Bring very little!
Put out everything you might need and you will need. Classify them according to clothes, toiletries, medicine, etc. Pick each item and scrutinize if you really need it. Have a must-pack up list. I know that you want to bring everything “just in case” it might be needed for your travel. However, don’t pack for the worst scenario because truly you will bring everything you see in your drawers and cabinet. Pack for the best scenario possible and if you will have troubles in between travel just buy yourself out of those jams. For example, bring layers of clothes rather than a heavy coat. Those layers of clothing can be reused and be used separately; in time of cold it can be piled up for warmth. When you bring pieces of item, think what you can do WITHOUT, and not what might be handy for your trip. When you are in doubt if you will need it or not, it’s a sign DON’T bring it. I’ve seen tourists bringing a month supply of toiletries; they literally bring everything they use in their bathroom. People, you are not transferring houses you are travelling and most likely than not, your usual routine will be changed. You will not need everything. Those pieces of personal item can usually be bought. If you cannot find one of your essentials, I’m pretty sure is not a need and you can go on without it. Take enough to last for the whole trip.
Have your clothes organized. Keep your clothing tightly packed. Have them in packing cubes, airless bags, or clothes compressor. Have your undergarments, socks and other miscellaneous stuff placed in a mesh bag or your packing cubes. Keep them compressed as possible. One is rolling your clothes, a back packer’s method. You can also pile clothes one after the other. You can take two or more garments, a good example would be your pants or shorts then put your shirt/s in between the folded pants. This will also decrease creases or wrinkles. Now, the hard part is what NOT to bring. This is especially critical for the ladies. Please, please DON’T bring your whole wardrobe. You plan ahead of what to wear for the coming days, so that you will lessen bringing extra clothes.
Another thing, bring items that gives you versatility in usage, a good unending example is your Swiss knife or your all in one body wash. Instead of packing for so many items you can save the space with just a few ones.
Two words with packing, you keep it SIMPLE and LIGHT. Have a safe trip!
