If you need patience when travelling with toddlers, same amount of patience is needed when traveling with teens. Just like toddlers, they easily get bored and they are also sometimes difficult to understand and control. Your teens may be interested to in-flight entertainment, but how about if they don’t. Below are some tips and guides how you can deal with your teens in order to keep them busy during a long flight.
Allow your teen to use her laptop, iPod, tablet or other device. Prior to the scheduled flight, let her download her favorite movie and music. Remind her to fully charge its battery and bring extra if there is. If allowed, let her use it during the flight, but do not forget the headphone so as not to bother other passengers.
Playing games. You may allow your teen to play computer games which she does not really play on a regular basis. Choose something that may catch her interest. She may want to use the entire flight with playing it.
Encourage reading. If your teen is interested in reading, know about her favorite author or genre. Look for something that she has not read yet and give it to her during the flight. If she is not fond of reading, she may want to listen to audio books. There are also eBooks available online. which she can choose from.
Assigning a certain task. If your teen is traveling with a younger sibling, you can ask her to assist you and help you with them. You can ask your teen to spend a couple of minutes playing with them or reading something to them to keep them calm and entertained as well. You can also ask them to assist you in changing clothes and diapers and also in feeding them.
Reminding about the precautions. Advise your teen to also stretch and make little movements to avoid back pains and to allow proper circulation. Remind that she needs to drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration. You can also encourage her to relax and sleep in order to prevent jet lag.
